Why Animals Don’t Smoke

Why Animals Don’t Smoke offers a creative way to help children learn about the dangers of tobacco and develop solid refusal skills. With the help of the cheetah, elephant, dog, turtle, and many more, children learn how smoking affects the animal’s health and bodies, as well as how they choose to say no to smoking.

Healthy You, Healthy Baby

INDEPTH

Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco and Health (INDEPTH) is a new, convenient alternative to suspension or citation that helps schools and communities address the teen vaping problem in a more supportive way. Instead of solely focusing on punitive measures, INDEPTH is an interactive program that teaches students about nicotine dependence, establishing healthy alternatives and how to kick the unhealthy addiction that got them in trouble in the first place.

Catch My Breath

CATCH My Breath is a peer-reviewed, evidence-based youth vaping prevention program developed by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. The program provides up-to-date information to teachers, parents, and health professionals to equip students with the knowledge and skills, they need to make informed decisions about the use of e-cigarettes, including JUUL devices.

Policy Center

Policy initiatives are key strategies in impacting community norms around smoking – a driving force in the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s initiative to create a healthier, safer Commonwealth.

Tobacco Free Adagio Health works with local businesses, community organizations, and local governments throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania to develop and strengthen tobacco-free policies that protect the health of people where they live, where they work, and where they play. We provide no-cost technical assistance and supporting signage to develop and implement smoke- and tobacco-free policies for worksites and college campuses, multi-unit housing spaces, and parks, playgrounds, and places where children, pets, and caregivers play.

Municipalities, townships, boroughs, and other groups are invited to join the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Adagio Health, and partnering agencies in eliminating children’s exposure to secondhand smoke at public parks and playgrounds throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. We provide technical assistance, promotional support, and stylish signage to local governments and youth-oriented spaces to help them go smoke- and vape-free.

Smoke-free housing units help landlords lower cleaning and maintenance costs, reduce the risk of fire, lower insurance premiums, decrease turnover time and cost, and increase rental values and marketability.

We work with housing leaders and property managers to create effective, enforceable policies that reduce exposure to second- and thirdhand smoke and improve the quality of life for all residents in a housing community.

Comprehensive, enforceable tobacco-free worksite policies that are clearly communicated provide many benefits to employers and employees, including:

  • Positively impacting the health and well-being of employees and clients,
  • Lowering business costs for employers,
  • Reducing the negative impacts of secondhand smoke,
  • Providing for a more efficient work environment,
  • Lowering insurance and worker’s compensation costs, and
  • Promoting no-cost live and virtual cessation services designed to increase the likelihood of successful quit attempts.

Puppy Lungs at Play is dedicated to creating safe areas for pup parents to let their best friends run free without fear of any ill effects from tobacco smoke or ingesting cigarette butts, vaping cartridges, and related litter.

Tobacco Free Adagio Health also works with state health officials to educate the public on the importance of clean indoor air and impact of the CIAA on businesses and communities, and to enforce clean indoor air regulations to ensure that local area businesses are complying with the spirit and letter of the law.

Tobacco Free Adagio Health offers various types of programs for schools to help prevent or reduce tobacco use among youths. These programs include: Young Lungs at Play, Catch My Breath, N.O.T, and INDEPTH.

Quitting is a heroic act of love for your future.

There are more important things than satisfying your next nicotine craving – like you and your health. Tobacco-related diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and stroke are the leading cause of avoidable disease and death in the United States. In Pennsylvania, smoking kills about 22,000 people per year. According to the American Lung Association, more than 17% of Pennsylvania adults smoke, and more than a quarter of Pennsylvania’s high schoolers reported using tobacco products, including vaping and Juul devices, at least once.

Quitting nicotine is hard, but we’re here to help
