World Aids Day this December

This month, we recognize the importance of World Aids Day, an opportunity to remember that approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. have HIV.

About 13 percent of them don’t know it and need to be tested. HIV continues to have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations, particularly racial and ethnic minorities and gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. The graphic below demonstrates that the incidence of new cases has dropped slightly in recent years, but we have to keep our eyes on the goal … U.S. Target Goal of ending the epidemic by 2030.

At Adagio Health, we encourage you to join us in advocating for PrEP to anyone who thinks they need it or if you think they need it. The CDC also recommends that all persons who use needles to inject drugs also begin a PrEP regimen. PrEP stands for “pre-exposure prophylaxis.” Either as an injection or daily pill, PrEP helps prevent someone from getting HIV from an HIV-positive partner. Adagio Health prescribes PrEP to patients who believe they are at higher risk of contracting HIV.
