Adagio Health President & CEO BJ Leber to Step Down in August 2025

After more than a decade of transformational leadership at Adagio Health, President and CEO BJ Leber has announced that she will step down from her role at the end of August 2025. Leber’s transition marks the close of a chapter defined by visionary growth and mission-driven impact — but not the end of her distinguished career in public service.

Leber will continue her civic engagement through ongoing roles on the board of Pittsburgh Water and the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women. A passionate advocate for women’s health and community well-being, her recent recognition with the Moe Coleman Award for Excellence in Community Service reflects her enduring commitment to building a better future for all.

During her tenure, Leber led Adagio Health through a period of dynamic expansion which included: increasing the organization’s operational footprint; broadening programs and access for populations in need – including women veterans; expanding services to include adult preventive care, treatment for HIV and Hepatitis C, food cupboards and farmers markets; adding behavioral health and care navigation services; and instituting a progressive family leave policy for employees. Her leadership has positioned Adagio Health as a regional force for compassionate, accessible care.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as President and CEO of Adagio Health,” said Leber. “I’m incredibly proud of what we have accomplished, and I am very confident that the strong team we have in place will build on our momentum to continue caring for the communities we serve — especially during times of challenge and change. Adagio Health has navigated uncertainty before, and I know it will continue to do so with strength and resilience.”

While recent developments around federal Title X funding have created uncertainty for community health providers nationwide, Leber’s retirement is not related to these events.

“I made my decision several months ago, and I have full confidence in the ability of Adagio Health’s executive team, staff, and Board of Directors to navigate current challenges, and any issues that arise down the road,” said Leber. “It’s an incredible team.”

Adagio Health Board President Lisa Scales, who is also the President and CEO of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, has worked with BJ for several years.

“BJ is an exceptional leader,” said Scales. “Her passion for community health, her advocacy for women and families, and her steady leadership have left a powerful mark on Adagio Health and the region. It has been an honor to serve alongside her, and I know her legacy will continue to inspire the important work ahead.”

Adagio Health’s Board of Directors will share updates on the transition process in the coming months.

Alongside fellow champions of women’s health including UPMC’s Dr. Liz Miller and AHN/Highmark’s Dr. Margaret Larkins-Pettigrew, BJ will be honored for her leadership and service to Adagio Health at the organization’s August 8 event: Leadership and Legacies – Recognizing Pittsburgh Women’s Health Heroes. For more information, visit: Leadership & Legacies: Recognizing Pittsburgh Women’s Health Heroes.
