Adagio Health Announces Five New Board Members

Pittsburgh, Pa. (February 26, 2019)—Adagio Health has announced the election of five new members to its Board of Directors. The newly elected members are Michael Bartley, Executive Vice President of Production and Development at Steeltown Entertainment; Betsy Benson, Publisher and Vice President, Pittsburgh magazine; Mimi Falbo, Owner & Principal at Mimi Falbo & Associates; Pam Iovino, United States Navy Veteran and former Assistant Secretary for Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; and Geraldine Jones, University President, California University of Pennsylvania. 

“We are so pleased to welcome this dynamic group of regional leaders to our Board,” said Adagio Health president and CEO, BJ Leber. “The depth of experience and the different backgrounds they bring to our organization will serve to strengthen what is already a very engaged and committed Board of Directors.  As Adagio Health continues to expand our healthcare services, we are looking forward to increased opportunities to serve women and men in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.”   

Michael Bartley

Michael Bartley currently serves as Executive Vice President of Production and Development at Steeltown Entertainment. Before initially joining Steeltown in January 2016 as a consulting producer, he spent 17 years as a host and managing editor at WQED Multimedia; and 15 years anchoring and reporting the news in Milwaukee, WI and Green Bay, WI. Mr. Bartley is a native of Pittsburgh and lives in the house where he grew up in the city’s Greenfield neighborhood. During his career as a broadcaster, he won 14 regional Emmys for excellence in journalism, as well as an Edward R. Murrow Award, a Gabriel Award, The Bill Burns Media Award, and numerous Pittsburgh Press Club Golden Quill Awards, among other professional honors. Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney has called Mr. Bartley’s storytelling “… a true asset to the Pittsburgh region.”


Betsy Benson

Betsy Benson is publisher and vice president of Pittsburgh Magazine, where she oversees operations at one of the region’s top media organizations. Ms. Benson first joined Pittsburgh magazine as editor/publisher in 2002.  Before that, she spent 16 years with the Pittsburgh Business Times where she started out as an intern, and ultimately worked her way to editor. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Ms. Benson has worked in journalism and publishing for more than 30 years. She is the 2018-2019 president of the national City & Regional Magazine Association.


Mimi Falbo

Before founding Mimi Falbo + Associates, Mimi Falbo, DNP, RN served as President and Chief Executive Officer of UPMC Braddock Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She has also served as Executive Vice President, Vice President of Nursing, Director of Psychiatric Services and Psychiatric Head Nurse and as a Staff Nurse. Dr. Falbo earned her R.N. at the Westmoreland School of Nursing, a B.S. in Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh and an M.S. in Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Nursing. She recently completed a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Chatham University. Currently, Dr. Falbo is an international consultant in quality and process improvement and supports organizations through transformation using Toyota/Lean principles. She is an adjunct faculty member of the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University and a frequent guest speaker at conferences, meetings, and universities. 


Pam Iovino

Pam Iovino spent 23 years in the United States Navy, where her service included tours as a Missile Maintenance Officer, Manpower Analyst, Program Manager, Anti-terrorism Intelligence Watch Officer, two tours as a Congressional Liaison Officer, and four Commanding Officer assignments—culminating in a promotion to Navy Captain. During her distinguished Navy career, Ms. Iovino earned the Legion of Merit Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; the Navy Commendation Medal; the Navy Achievement Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. She retired from the Navy in 2003 to accept a Presidential appointment, with Senate confirmation, to be Assistant Secretary for Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—becoming the chief advocate for all legislative matters on Capitol Hill affecting our nation’s 25 million veterans. Most recently, Ms. Iovino was the Director of Veterans Services for Allegheny County, she is also a member of the Governor’s Women Veterans Committee. Ms. Iovino is currently running for Pennsylvania State Senate in a special election.


Geraldine Jones

Geraldine Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in education from California State College in 1972, and completed her master’s degree in education at California in 1980. She began her career as a second-grade teacher in the Albert Gallatin School District in Uniontown, Pa.  Eventually, she returned to Cal U, serving as a program director for the university’s Upward Bound program for 20 years and chair of the Department of Academic Services for 11 years. Ms. Jones also held the title of associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services before going on to serve as the college dean from 2000-2008. In July of 2008, she was named the provost/vice president for academic affairs and continued in that role until she was appointed acting university president in 2012. On April 7, 2016, she was named president of California University of Pennsylvania. 

Among the initiatives the Board will help Adagio Health to roll out in 2019: a push to offer increased medical and behavioral health services to Women Veterans; a focused effort to encourage patients who are struggling with opioid addiction to seek healthcare services that may also lead to referrals and recovery; increased outreach to the region’s LGBTQIA+ population; a campaign focused on helping pregnant smokers quit; and the organization’s upcoming “Transforming Women’s Health” fall 2019 symposium featuring experts and sessions on a variety of timely issues, including: the Opioid Epidemic, Maternal Health Crisis, Intersections of Women’s Healthcare and #MeToo—Beyond the Hashtag. 

“Adagio Health has been providing critically important family planning and reproductive healthcare services for patients in western PA, many of whom come to us without any health insurance, for over four decades,” said Ms. Leber. “As our services have expanded, our commitment to being a safety net for patients in need remains the same. We will continue to break down barriers to needed care, and we are fortunate to have a Board of Directors made up of current and new members who are dedicated to the same values and vision that will carry our work well into the future.”
