Health Youth is an abstinence-focused program based on a mentoring, counseling, and adult supervision model for ages 9-14. It is designed to help students transition from elementary school to middle school and the development process from child to teen.
- Creates and expands opportunities for youth in order to promote optimal transition into healthy adulthood
- Promotes and provides opportunities for the development of positive mentor and other adult relationships with adolescents
- Enhances parenting and relationship skills for parents, guardians and caregivers of youth
- Assists youth in developing positive self-esteem and social competence and increases the protective factors available to youth.
Typically Healthy Youth is implemented in an afterschool setting for ten sessions with the ratio of no more than eight students to one adult. This allows adult mentors to more effectively serve the students.
